Book One in the Portland Police Bureau Series

Author: Jae

Description

A detective falls in love with a victim in one of her cases in this remarkable lesbian romantic suspense.

Workaholic Detective Aiden Carlisle isn’t looking for love—and certainly not at the law enforcement seminar she reluctantly agreed to attend. But the first lecturer is not at all what she expected.

Psychologist Dawn Kinsley has just found her place in life. After a failed relationship with a police officer, she has sworn never to get involved with another cop again, but she feels a connection to Aiden from the very first moment.

Can Aiden keep from crossing the line when a brutal crime threatens to keep them apart before they’ve even gotten together?

    Different side of Jae

Warning there is a rape scene early in the book, the details are not graphic and are told to the sex crimes detective Aiden, and the book deals heavily with this topic. However it is done in such a way as to minimize triggers. This is a wonderful book in spite of the heavy topic and I highly recommend it, even if you have to skim past parts.

Dawn is a psychologist whose clients are mainly survivors of rape. Aiden is the Sex Crimes detective. The women meet at a lecture then later Aiden is first Detective on the scene of the crime and assigned to Dawn’s case.

The first half of the book was about the rape and investigation and finally the trial. This was difficult for me as well. It was handled pretty realistically. Its all a part of the story, nothing overly graphic and if you can get past this part you should be fine. The second half of the of the book deals with Dawn’s recovery. She learns how to be alone, sleep at night and learn to trust, at least a little… She is learning to take her power back and to allow love in.

This book was intense and as I have said very hard in places. However it was also a book about strength and determination. Dawn is strong and while frightened she will not submit to her fears and wallow. She fights back by reclaiming her life. It was so easy to care for her and Aiden both. Aiden has a lot to offer and fears of her own to overcome and it seems Dawn is just the woman to help her.

I just really, really liked this story. It moved me and touched my heart. It is so emotional and runs through them all, fear, sadness, joy, strength, peace, love….. and so incredibly well written!! This is the first in a series and I am looking forward to the next.

Thank you so much for this important book Jae.

    (verified owner):

A wonderfully written slow burn romance between two mature women, who overcome their emotional problems as they are thrown together by an experience neither of them could have expected.

For both their Jobs are more than just a means to earn your bread, but the reason they are thrown together by fate could hardly be any worse. Detective Carlisle is fighting her (supposed) inner demons as Dawn, a psychologist, becomes the victim of rape.

As the case develops so does the relationship between the two women, as Aiden Carlisle gets her teeth like a terrier into the case, not prepared to ever let go and equally determined to protect Dawn.

The character detail and development of both main characters but in equal measure of the supporting cast are well worked and proof of a lot of psychological insight. A grippoing read is the consequence.

    I really enjoyed this book.
