Description

A slow-burn lesbian romance about leaving the past behind and opening your heart to new possibilities.

Investment banker Ash Taylor left her cut-throat world to set up a cool, cutting-edge tattoo studio. Her love life’s been a lot bumpier, though. Ever since a heart-breaking affair with a straight colleague, she’s vowed to steer clear of women unsure of their sexuality.

Talent-agency executive Carmen Lyttleton is straight, career focused, and not prone to distraction from her occasional casual relationships. When her best friend gets a tattoo at Ash’s studio, Carmen finds herself unexpectedly impressed by Ash and her business.

When they accidentally meet again, Carmen is shocked by the sparks between them and the realization that she feels a lot more than just admiration for Ash’s work ethic. It can’t possibly mean what it seems…can it?

The pull between the women is powerful but so are their fears, old baggage, and stubbornness. Can they dare to love?

Wow, a truly great story, you really can feel the air simmer, the connection between them. Also the fear to get hurt again is so real. A. L. Brooks has done a wonderful job.

This is a sequel to “Write your own script”, where we can revisit Tamsyn and Maggie and follow the love story of Carmen and Ash. I really liked this book, very well written as usual from this author. There are several dramas developing in this story, but none of them are overly dramatic so it’s very good read and I recommend the book.
Now I’m Portuguese, living in Lisbon, so everytime the Portuguese Custard Tarts (Pastel de Nata) was mentioned my mouth watered and I wanted to eat one, because they are really delicious! Unfortunately we are in lockdown too, so no pastries, which made this reading very hard! :)))

Carmen is finding it harder and harder to work up any interest in Gerald. He’s a nice man but shouldn’t there be more in a relationship than just nice?
She loves her work, she has good friends ,she has her brother Tristan who she wishes
    she could see more often.
There has to be more, right?Someone who lights up when Carmen walks into the room.Someone whom Carmen lives to see everyday.
Who knew double espresso and Portugese custard tarts could change someone’s world?

Dare to Love is a super slow burn “toaster oven” romance with a plethora of interesting side characters and stories. Honestly I felt like the “dreaded middle third” could have been condensed a little, with some repetition in the wondering if Carmen was serious in her attraction to Ash or simply curious. But I adored the story line of Sophie, Ash’s 14-year-old niece who has recently realized she’s attracted to girls. This is a nice solid book that I’d recommend for fans of the toaster oven genre.

The Talent Agent and Tattoo Artist
Ash is a strong of sprit tattoo artist with a kick a$$ studio, a sister and niece she loves and a zest for travel. She left her career as an investment banker for various reasons, not the least of which was because she fell for a straight woman who played with her heart. She has sworn off straight women forever until…. Carmen is a talent agent for several famous actresses and actors, the greatest of them being Tamsyn Harris (from the book Write Your Own Script). She is a busy executive who in spite of her casual relationship with a man, some close friends and a brother, has little time for distractions. When her best friend gets a tattoo in Ash’s studio, Carmen is impressed and before long, they meet again and again, each time leaving Carmen feeling a little more confused about the feelings she is having over the special woman…

This is a really good, slow burn romance. I LOVED the follow up with Tamsyn and Maggie! It was wonderful to visit these old friends. It was also great to meet Ash and follow her relationship with Carmen. There is a lot they go through with family, work and other challenges they have to deal with and both are very cautious about their friendship becoming more. However, they have such a powerful connection and it was lovely to watch them grow both personally and with each other. The emotions and the physical interactions ranging from gently kisses to intense sexual situations (yummy!!) make this book so genuinely sweet and loveable and so worth reading. It is the perfect book for a lazy afternoon! Now if you will excuse me, I am off to re-read Write Your Own Script and continue the tender loving feels I have from this book.

A.L. Brooks is one of those consistent authors that we all love to read. You know when you get one of her books that it will be interesting and well written. That is definitely the case with her latest novel, Dare to Love.
This is a slow-burn, coming-out romance. Ash Taylor is a tattoo artist with her own business. She used to be a corporate banker until she decided to leave that stressful job to run her own tattoo shop. Carmen Lyttleton is a successful talent agent who has always considered herself to be a straight woman, at least until she meets Ash. There is such a connection, a spark that gets stronger every time the two women are together. The attraction is strong, but there are many obstacles in the way to true love for these two women.

This book is a companion novel to Ms. Brooks’ Write Your Own Script, and you will find the main characters in that book are fairly important secondary characters in this one. I do love seeing characters that I’ve connected with in other stories continuing to thrive in new tales.
This book also deals with a main character finding her true sexuality later in life. This is refreshing since it happens more often than you think in real life. Ms. Brooks handled this well from the perspective of both characters. There is also a secondary story line in this novel that shows Ash’s young niece questioning her own sexuality, so you actually have a chance to see two people from two very different age groups going through the process of coming out.

All of the characters in this novel are well-developed and realistic, both main and secondary characters. The romance is heart-warming and I had a good time reading it. Though Dare to Love and Write Your Own Script are companion books, you do not have to read them both to appreciate them. However, I can recommend them both as lovely romances you would definitely enjoy.

I received an ARC from Ylva Publishing for an honest review.

I enjoyed this slow burn romance by AL Brooks. The storyline was well developed if a little slow at times. The main characters of Ash and Carmen are strong and witty and are supported by a great secondary cast. I loved best friend Felicity!!
The developing attraction between the Ash and Carmen drew me in and I wanted to see how their connection unfolded.
I received a free arc in exchange for an honest review.
